ESD/ESV - valves for safety Instrumented Systems

SIL (Safety Integrity Level)

SOMAS valves and actuators can be used in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) that are SIL-rated in accordance with IEC 61511.

SOMAS has commissioned exida to perform Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA), in accordance with IEC 61508, covering the full range of SOMAS valves and actuators.

The resulting product specific fail rates are intended to be used in the design of  Safety Instrumented System (SIS) at required Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).

The Safety Integrity Level for a specific function depends on the complete combination of sensing and logic solving, as well as the actuator and valve. The failure rate data for the SOMAS valves and actuators allow the complete modelling of the final element assembly, including positioners for Partial Valve Stroke Testing (PVST) if required.

The results from the FMEDA analyses are available and can be supplied on request. The result can also be found in the exida equipment database.
